Christopher Columbus Punch Cup Under Plate Novelty Glass Co. Fostoria Ohio
Christopher Columbus Punch Cup Saucer Or Under Plate - Novelty Glass Co. This was made in 1892 in time for the Chicago World's Fair in 1893. Made in clear glass with gold trim on the rim, a gold bearded Columbus and the 1492 - 1892 ribbon. At present, this is the last Columbus punch cup saucer or under plate I have for sale. Size: About 4 9/16" in diameter - thickness is about 3/4". The Novelty Glass Company was only in operation about 2 years so production was very limited. The Novelty Glass Company opened in February of 1891, in May of 1892 became Factory "T" of the United States Glass Co. The building burnt down April 2, 1893 never to reopen leaving 200 glass workers out of work. Condition: Very good condition but has a little roughness on the base ring in one area, fine chipping, looks worse than it really is. I never noticed it until I was measuring the diameter. Very hard to scan or get a decent photo of, as with a light background you can see through the gold. In person the gold looks very good, not bad for something 128 years old!
