Maurice Heaton Born: Neuchatel, Switzerland 1900 Died: Valley Cottage, New York 1990 - A truly great American glass artist, Maurice Heaton was a third-generation glass worker and came to America with his family in 1914... He grew up with two generations of English glass artists Maurice worked with his father, Clement, designing and building stained-glass windows for many churches throughout New York City.

Work dried up during the Depression so in the early 1930s Maurice began experimenting with enameling on glass - experimenting with flat and molded glass as early as 1930. He invented a process in 1947 for firing and shaping his glassware in the studio furnace, which started the ball rolling for the studio glass movement of the 1960's. During the next 50 years, he created a beautiful body of work that included bent enameled glass tableware, lighting and backlit murals..

Maurice Heatons work is in the permanent collections of in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Corning Museum, and the Museum of Art and Design... Heaton's work spans seven decades, and through his unique range of murals, window hangings, lighting fixtures and tableware, he is considered by many a "true original" (Neues Glas, April 1985). And designed by an American/Swiss designer Maurice Heaton (1900 - 1989).

Designed and executed by Heaton himself, the teardrop form, sand-cast glass with an abstract radiating geometric sunburst pattern in white and clear working its way in to shades of yellow and the center red enamel center.. Though subtle, the ethereal effect is dazzling. Approximate size: 15 inches by 12 inches. His prolific work continued into the 1960's, with increasing applied and internal colors, pre-dating Higgins Glass. Light signs of use should be expected consistent with age and previous ownership... A nice, clean example to the Display Plate... Free of chips, cracks - slight to none on any surface scratches to the base or interior.. This is not a store bought item, has been previously owned but well cared for. If there is a problem and unable to pay within the 4 day time frame, feel free to contact me, we can certainly work something out...
