8 Indiana Glass Arch & Dot Clear with Red Flash Colored Plates 8 1/2 Diameter

  

A vintage set of eight clear and red flash colored plates were made by the Indiana Glass Company. They feature a dot and arch pattern with a square base. The plates are clear with red flash accent color. These hefty plates are circa mid century.

Flashed glass (or flash on glass) is a process that was used in the art glass trade as a cheaper method of making colored glass. This method involves putting a thin coating of color on a base of clear glass. When finished, a flashed glass piece was practically indistinguishable from solid color glass. Red flash was a commonly used color - like this handsome little red and clear glass round diamond point plate set. Measure 8 1/2 in diameter.
