Over one hundred years old, still useful and beautiful. A hard to find early antique Early American Pattern Glass, EAPG, three mold, pedestal cake plate pastry stand with 18 raised scallops circling the rim edge. Under bright, angled photographic lights and very close inspection, utensil wear and minor cut marks can be seen, yet displays nicely with a cake on top.

Mild uranium or green fluorescent glow under ultraviolet, UV light. The 1978 book Early American Pattern Glass, Volume One, by Alice Hulett Metz, shows a piece like this one on page 149 and states: Made by Greensburg Glass Company in 1889. Excellent, simple non-flint which has a future. Around base of some pieces is a double band of small teardrops, one pointing up and meeting the point of the opposite one which points down. Metz writes that this pattern can be found in flat sauce, footed sauce, tumbler, finger bowl, rectangular deep relish, goblet, wine, salt shaker, large plate, celery, creamer, covered sugar, cake stand, tray for water set, and bowls.

Also called Teardrop Bands and Fulton by other glass experts. For a century old pedestal cake plate this is in carefully used condition and probably only brought out of the china cabinet for very special occasions. Suitable as an antique gift, useful as a cupcake, pastry, cookie, or bagel stand in bakery shop, store display or wedding cake pedestal, something old! Measures 9 5/8 inches diameter and 5 1/8 inches high.
